Dr. Anand’s Creative Writing

“…like many writers, we all bring our lenses to what we write. Science—now I’m realizing more and more—it’s a language, it’s an entire language. Which, of course, has a culture associated with it as all languages do. And I bring that language and culture to my writing”.

Madhur Anand, Parallel Careers

Dr. Madhur Anand’s influence extends beyond the scientific realm; she is also an award-winning author and poet.

She serves on several national and international granting panels in both the arts and the sciences, including the Educational Review Committee of The Walrus. As an award-winning author and poet, her writing has won multiple awards, most notably the Governor General Award for non-fiction. All her books have been published by Penguin Random House Canada.

Madhur’s work in art and science has extended to School of Environmental Science at the University of Guelph’s new offering, Creative Writing for Environmental Science. This course is an opportunity to have our scientific curriculum reflect evolving interests of students and the evolving needs of society. This is especially important as the interdisciplinary work, science communication, and holistic understanding of global issues become more relevant and necessary in a polarized world.
