“We need to put into practice processes that lead to mobilizing resources, sharing knowledge between each other, thinking holistically, and, ultimately, promoting growing cooperation […]”
Madhur Anand
While science can provide practical solutions, artistic invention can empower individuals and societies to understand the past and to imagine futures. And while research yields effective technology and knowledge, storytelling can create empathy and resilience to future crises. We need both science and the arts, a combination of multiple perspectives and knowledge, to creatively and effectively face these myriad of challenges.
It was this need for interdisciplinarity that started what is now known as The Collaboratory. This collaborative and interdisciplinary group was established in 2019 by Dr. Anand and colleagues from a multitude of disciplines with funding from the Guelph Institute for Environmental Research, the University of Guelph and SSHRC.
See below for examples of work that Dr. Anand has facilitated, collaborated on or provided leadership to:
Cross-Disciplinary Conversations
Conversations between experts in diverse fields of study.
A series of conversations on environmental writing and the synergy of storytelling and science.
Art-Meets-Science
This project aimed to foster a dialogue between society, artists, and scientists by co-creating unique communication pieces to disseminate environmental research.
The Collaboratory continues to be lead by Dr. Anand. If you are interested in learning more or collaborating, contact Dr. Anand.
